Many people don’t know what exactly makes a fruit a fruit or a vegetable a vegetable. This problem is compounded by the fact that in the culinary industry, fruits are often cooked or used as vegetables and vice versa. Here a quick botanical definition of a fruit:
the ripened ovary together with the seeds of a flowering plant
Now onto the list
5. Pumpkin - Pumpkins are usually cooked as fruits, so maybe I was the only one who thought they were vegetables, but I would bet a lot of people are at the very least are questionable on this one.
4. Tomato - I don’t think this one needs much explanation. Most people know this one already but what would a list of fruits that you thought were vegetables be without tomatoes? Anyway tomatoes are cooked and eaten as vegetables but are actually fruits. ex. salads, sandwiches
3. Green Bean - Yep, green beans are fruit. Tell the kids that next time they refuse to eat them.
2. Bell Pepper - Bell peppers are kermit the frogs favorite pizza topping. That’s wrong in two ways. First, fruits don’t go on pizza. Second, frogs don’t eat fruit. ex. fajitas, pizza
1. Corn - Seriously, no one knows this one. Corn is a fruit. I didn’t believe it when I heard it either so go look it up if you don’t believe me.
